The Story:
Flashback:
A WWII/Cold War Navy substance developed to attract sharks
and make them aggressive.
The idea was to stop an amphibious assault with sharks. Fantasy sequence of
Japanese
invasion of Waikiki beach stopped when sharks eat soldiers. Unfortuately, the
project is abandoned when sharks eat
the scientist doing the experiment. They are considered "lost at sea"
and the experimental chemicals
are left in a warehouse, later sold as surplus, and abandoned.
Modern Day:
People paid to clear out a warehouse, and/or meth lab
techicicians, find the chemicals in barrels
and dump what appear to be drums of toxic waste into the Ala Wai Canal, which
happens to drain near
Waikiki Beach.
It gets dumped into the canal that empties out onto Waikiki beach.
At the beach, everyone has come to see the total solar
eclipse. people stand in the shallow
water and occupy many party boats out on the shoreline. The eclipse makes the
tide
come in higher, but at the same time calms out the water (because of gravity).
People
see a wave, in the distance, but don't know it is a mass of sharks. At the height
of the eclipse,
sharks attack, so it takes a few minutes for people to know what is going on,
as
they are looking up. Survivors cling to a collection of party boats and rafts
along the shoreline. A scientist and his favorite dancer (who is also a single
mom with a precocious child)
must find and stop the leak, or counteract it. Naturally, her precocious son
is out on
one of the boats with friends, school class, etc.
